Background:
Although Rambert is Britain’s oldest dance company, staging their first performance in 1926, their unique history reaches back to 1914 when Polish émigré and former Ballet Russes dancer Marie Rambert arrived in London fleeing the outbreak of WW1. Supporting herself by giving tuition in dance and eurhythmics, Marie eventually opened a dance school in Kensington and established The Ballet Club in 1930. Fast-forward almost a century and Rambert is still at the very cutting edge of dance. And now they have a beautiful new home to boot. Officially opened by HM The Queen in March 2014, Rambert’s new state-of-the-art HQ on London’s South Bank is a purpose-built space designed to nurture, develop and realise the creative visions of the very best contemporary choreographers, dancers and composers.
